Are you ok?

1 in 5 Australians are affected by mental illness, yet many don’t ask for help. We’re encouraged to talk about mental health, yet so few share their story. There’s still strong judgment and stigma out there. Are you ok? That’s a good start, it’s become a mainstream conversation, but do people actually feel comfortable sharing their personal struggles with depression, anxiety, self-harm, alcohol abuse? Does that person feel heard? Do we need to know how to resolve issues or is it more about listening? The most healing conversations I’ve had were with people who tried to see what I see. In that space of unconditional love I was able to resolve my own issues. The most powerful gift you can give someone is your full attention. We can all shed a more positive light on mental health.

Love is listening.
Listening with the intent,
not to reply or to solve,
to understand.
When words are heard
with eyes
and heart
we heal.
Listening is healing.
